D'Youville College, or DYC for short, is a private, coeducational college, independent but with a Roman Catholic tradition, located in Buffalo, New York state's 2nd most populous city, its population being estimated at a number of nearly 271 000 inhabitants. Buffalo is also the seat of Erie County and the principal city of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area, the largest in Western New York and the larger Upstate New York.
D'Youville was established in 1908 and was founded by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart (GNSH), and named after their patron, Saint Marie-Marguerite d'Youville. It currently offers its students `27 baccalaureate, eight master's-level and five post-baccalaureate degrees, as well as advanced certificate programs in health-related professions. Five-year programs leading to both a bachelor's and master's degrees are available in dietetics, international business, occupational therapy and physician assistant. Other combined programs include education (BS/MS), nursing (RN BS/MS), physical therapy (6-year BS/DPT) and chiropractic (7-year BS/DC). All professional programs have a strong liberal arts core.`
D'Youville's athletic teams are known as the Spartans and they compete in NCAA Division III, in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, Eastern College Athletic Conference, and United Volleyball Conference (men's volleyball). Their distinctive colors are red and white.
